There is a sadness so great
And so deep within me
Perhaps it is there because
Somehow there is some part of me
A part so ancient that it remembers
a time before the great Lie
the Lie that doomed the world
even before it's realization
So I remember and I know that it's a lie
deep, deep within
When all others have forgotten
and believe it
to be the Truth of Life.
No, it is the Lie.
And this is how it came about:
Back when fields were greener
than those today
Because most of them were
in fact, forests full of life
A man, who was a good man,
he told a lie to his son
out of love, of course,
blind love.
And his son believed him,
for that is the way of things,
since Adam first believed that God
was his own father.
And this son, he told his own son
this lie, which he thought
was truth,
and so forth.
It became the Lie
not of Life but of our lives
not of Earth but of our world.
And this great Lie:
what was it?
This lie is bringing Mother Earth
to her knees, bloody
gasping, pleading
raped, limp
weeping
dying.
I shall tell you
what is was
how it began:
the ignorant father
told his poor son:
"Son,
you are the most precious thing
in all the world."
