Forever and Longer

If you have the chance to absorb
all of the unhappiness in the world
into yourself
and create the greatest work of art
that man has ever created
a work that will define humanity
by the terms of humanity
forever and longer
would you do it?
There's a catch of course
not that you would be stuck
with all the sadness
forever and longer
but that it would dissipate
from you slowly
and so
you would become the source of all unhappiness
in all the world
but you would be great
greater than the gods
you would be history itself
you would be immortal
as any man has ever hoped to be immortal.
