You Precious Little Snowflake

In this hectic and desperate media-centric culture
We are fed solely on extremes,
There can be no portrayal of the 'everyday man'
Without the inclusion of the uniquely quirky, the terribly brave
And the deeply troubled.

By the overwhelming creativity around us
We ourselves are stifled and muted,
Our lives become a jumble of the emotions we see on TV,
Every possible scenario is displayed before us in tragedy and wit
So that we'll know how to act.

The worst of the problems are our problems,
They just don't seem to measure up,
So we can casually say "Thank God I'm not him"
While thinking my worries aren't as bad, so why do I worry?
Perhaps I'm just weak.

We are taught what is funny by laugh-tracks,
That pain lasts no longer than an hour,
That there is always a savior, and every story has a villain,
So everything'll be alright now, you're a precious little snowflake
Just like Brad Pitt.
